Rene Castellon is an American Nicaraguan artist currently living in Miami, Florida. He earned a BFA from The school of Visual Arts in Manhattan and additionally, studied fine arts in the University of New Orleans as well as St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain. Having spent his life living and working between the united states and Nicaragua, Rene’s work deals with the duality of identifying with both cultures; at the same time not fully belonging to either. His work explores cultural diaspora as well as social and political differences. While his work is often chaotic and robust, at other times, it is minimalistic and peaceful.

After graduating from SVA, Rene moved backed to Nicaragua where he continued to paint and showcase his work. Throughout the years, his paintings were exhibited in Pleyades (Nicaragua’s leading art gallery) and was a featured artist at Art Warehouse (an artist cooperative). Before moving to Miami, He organized art fairs in the city of Managua; recruiting talented young artists in the area to show and sell their work alongside him. After rediscovering some of his childhood artwork, his paintings began revisiting a subject of his past, creating a collection of colorful and minimalistic landscapes. These pieces are a reimagining of his childhood artwork; using volcanoes as his subject while exploring color & lines.
